From a very young age, we are bombarded with negative messages telling us that we are not enough, that we don’t fit in. That’s why it’s important to take small steps every day to change that mindset. Let’s take a look at 5 ways to practice self-love and begin the journey towards becoming your truest self.
1. Don’t worry about other people’s opinions —or at least try
Easier said than done, right? While we all know that we shouldn’t pay much attention to what other people think of us, this is a really hard task. But there’s no way you can make everyone happy all the time.
So, start focusing more on what you think of yourself. Putting yourself first every day will eventually lead you to higher self-confidence and a more fulfilling life.
2. Stop comparing yourself to others
In this time and age, with social media at its peak, it’s really hard for people not to compare themselves to others. We are constantly exposed to other people’s happy lives, and this obviously takes a toll on our mental health.
So, try to spend less time online and more time living your actual life. You’ll be surprised at how much easier it is not to compare yourself to others.
3. Allow yourself to make mistakes
There’s a little perfectionist inside of everyone. But we all make mistakes, it’s inevitable. There’s no need to beat yourself up over it.
And here’s the thing: if we don’t allow ourselves to make mistakes, we are robbing ourselves of the chance to learn something. Try to start embracing your mistakes as learning opportunities. There’s a lesson behind every failure.
4. Feel your feelings
Don’t tough it up. Take your time to identify and deal with whatever you’re feeling —anger, fear, joy, disappointment, pride. It’s all part of life.
This will help you become a much more emotionally intelligent person, leading to more self-confidence and empowerment.
5. Be kind to yourself
This is maybe the most important tip when it comes to self-love. Be kinder to yourself every day. Talk to yourself the way you’d talk to the people you love.
Be patient and learn to accept yourself as who you are. A little kindness never hurt anyone.
