To succeed in the achievement of your dreams, you need a trait of never giving up. This is not a trait that you will acquire after being successful, but it is a work in progress, an attitude that is developed over a long period. Once you develop this mentality and you couple it with a clear vision, nothing can stop. You will be in a position to achieve anything that you set your mind to. The following are the keys to developing a defiant, never give up attitude!

  1. Change Your Thinking

A change in the way you perceive things is the first step to cultivating a never give up attitude. Henry Ford, the father of automobiles, was quoted saying,” whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you are right.” This means that if you truly believe in yourself and have positive thinking that you are going to achieve your goals no matter what it takes, there is nothing that will stop you from achieving them but your thoughts.

  1. Be Persistent

Always have a firm and obstinate continuance spirit in your course of action, no matter the difficulties you face along the way. Challenges that come along the way to achieving your goals should never stop you from working towards the goal. People may even discourage, but you need to keep pushing without giving up.

  1. Develop Grit

Grit is the mental toughness that you develop over time for being persistent. Grit encompasses passion and persistence in your goal achievement journey despite the obstacles you may face. It requires that you be consistent, not give up, and find a way around challenging situations because you know the value of your goals in the long run.

  1. Be Resilient

Resilience is the ability to rise again and continue working towards your goal after being knocked down. The way you handle your setback is a key factor in determining your success.

Resilience demands that you stay optimistic that challenges are part of the success journey and accept failure as part of the learning process in achieving your goals. Use your pain as a motivation to achieve your goals. A resilient skin will allow you to forge on even in the toughest of times because you are reminded that you started this for a reason, and you owe it to yourself to see your goals through to the end.

  1. Stay Committed and Control Your Feelings.

Being committed is like making an unbreakable promise to yourself that you will find a way to be successful. You should never allow your feelings to determine your actions because, by so doing, your motivation will be sporadic. This will mean that you will only be inspired when you feel good, and in those moments, you feel bad, you will be less inspired.

People with a never give up mindset are not guided by feelings. In times when they feel like giving up, they choose to stay committed to the course. You are set apart from other individuals by your consistent actions and your commitment to the course.

  1. Look At Your Challenges from A Different Perspective.

The next time you feel like giving up, just know that you are losing out on a learning opportunity. Remember that there’s a learning lesson in both success and failure.

Don't be rigid when it comes to the angle at which you look at your plans. If things have not gone according to your plan, you should plan according to how things go. You can alter your plans to get to where you are going.

  1. Stop Thinking About Setbacks in Global Terms.

You should know that failing in one area does not imply that you are an overall failure. This will make you doubt yourself, and you may state thinking of quitting and even feeling sorry for yourself. Feeling sorry for yourself makes you overlook your personal responsibility, and you start blaming others.

When you embrace a sense of responsibility for your failure caused by your actions and attitude, you start developing a never quit mindset. Make a decision that you will not quit despite the setbacks and never give up.

  1. Learn From Those Who Have Succeeded

Learning can happen from watching how other people in a similar pursuit path are holding up. You can learn from real-life stories of people who faced challenges in the pursuit of their goals, but they refused to quit and later managed to achieve their goals. Watching and reading about how these people refuse to give up strengthens your reserve to continue, and it makes you affirm that if they did not quit, you are not going to quit. Some good stories to read are those of Benjamin Franklin, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan and many others.

  1. Go Back to Why You Decide to Chase After the Goal.

Create a list of reasons why you want to achieve your goals. If you discover that there is no concrete reason for pursuing this specific goal, then create a more compelling reason that will motivate you to never give up on your goals.

When you feel like throwing in the towel, always go back to the reasons you are pursuing this goal, and why the goal means a lot to you, you will find out that quitting is not an option because you have come a long way.

Final Take Away

In your pursuit for a worthwhile goal, there are days that you will feel like the goal is too hard then you thought, it is taking too long, you are getting nowhere with this goal, and even feel like you cannot accomplish this goal. It is very likely that you’d want to give up when that happens. But always go back to your drawing board, find out why you decided to pursue this goal, learn from other people who never give up, and change your mindset. You will find out that you have all it takes to achieve your goals. Now go get ‘em!
